All proceeds raised by the David Busta Basketball Tournament and Silent Auction are gifted to the University of Wisconsin’s Waisman Center and are dedicated to the David Busta Spinal Cord Injury Research Fund. The fund supports the research of Dr. Su Chun Zhang and his lab. Dr. Zhang’s staff consists of 12 scientists, researchers and graduate students.
Specialized neural cells produced from normal human embryonic stem cells in Dr. Zhang’s lab are being tested for their therapeutic potential in animal models of neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, ALS, spinal cord injury and multiple sclerosis. The lab’s long-term goal is to translate this technology to the rebuilding of our injured or diseased brain and spinal cord.
