2008 Event Recap

First, I was very pleased with our fundraising total this year. While we do not yet have a final figure (we still expect a small check or two to be received), it appears we will be in the neighborhood of $29,000. That figure is fairly average compared to our last few years. When we started to prepare for this year's tournament I feared the troubled economy might limit our totals this year. I set my sights slightly lower this year, but I'm very happy and thankful that we were so successful.

I think the general turnout for the day was a little lower than previous years. The nice weather on Saturday may have been more inviting to some than the tournament -- an opportunity to do some deer hunting or outdoor chores around the house. The timing of the tournament is something that seems to come up every year. I have many people tell me that they would like to come, but with it being Thanksgiving weekend, many people have family obligations or are deer hunting. That being said, I think the timing helps give the tournament a local feel. Many originally from Chetek who may now live elsewhere are back home for the holiday and are able to plan the tournament as part of their holiday weekend. Also, we know the school and gymnasiums are likely to be available that weekend.

I believe the actual basketball tournament this year featured the best group of players we have ever had. The competition was fierce and the play was at a high level.

I was pleased that the day went so smoothly. It's a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved with putting the event together. From the planning committee to the volunteers to the referees to the sponsors and spectators -- it takes everyone to make the event such a success. I am truly grateful to everyone who participates in this annual fundraiser and extremely proud to be part of such an effort. It's a lot of work every year, but with everyone's help I truly believe we are making a difference. Below are some photos we wanted to share with everyone.

All the best,
David Busta
